What has been your experience with Horse Therapy?

We here at Horses 4 Heroes believe in the power of horses as healing animals. We would love to hear your thoughts and experiences with horses as a therapy medium.

Have you found it helpful? Has someone in your family found Horse Therapy helpful?

Powerful. I'm actually hoping to add this to my skill set as a therapist some time in late 2014 if budget allows. One of my warriors was having a tough afternoon and I asked him if he wanted to walk out to the pasture to meet the horse that I had adopted for the week. He said he didn't know if the horses would realy want to be around him considering the way he was feeling. I said to him, let's go find out. When we approached the fence, a beautiful brown horse named Tod walked up and stuck his head over into the warriors shoulder to snuggle. We cried. It was a good day after that.

I became intrested in working with horses in my private practice after the loss of my mother almost a year ago. The grief was overwhelming, my husband always new that I wanted a horse and had the insight to rescue two arabian mares that were neglected and needed someone to care for them. Having my girls to care for and interact with slowly brought me out of my extreme grief and depression. Now we are obtaining the training to begin offering EAP, planning to offer services to family and members of the military in the near future. I always new that horses were special animals but to experience their intense healing power in my own life was amazing to say the least.
